My Favorite Wallpapers at The Fernwood: A Love Letter to Bold Walls & Woodland Whimsy
If you've followed me for a while, you know I’ve never met a wallpaper I didn’t obsess over. So when we started designing The Fernwood—our cozy, mountain retreat in Connestee Falls—I knew wallpaper was going to be one of the stars of the show.
I wanted every room to feel special, a little unexpected, and most of all—joyful. Each wallpaper in the house tells a story, and today I’m giving you a peek at some of my absolute favorites (the ones guests comment on the second they walk in the door).
The best part is, I spent HOURS searching the internet for wallpaper and have them linked so you don’t have to find them yourself!
1. The Entryway – Dark, Moody, and Full of Magic
This one had me at hello. I’m completely in love with how rich and layered this forest print is—it’s almost like stepping into a fairy tale (but make it chic). The jewel-toned greens, little animals, and botanicals all come together to make this space feel like a secret garden.
We added a sculptural leather bench and a modern chandelier to let the wallpaper shine without competing—and honestly? It’s one of my favorite vignettes in the house.
Why I love it:
It feels like a maximalist hug.
The details are so intricate—you notice something new every time.
It sets the tone the minute you walk in.

2. The Forest Mural in the Mountainside Nook Room– Calm, Cool, and Dreamy
This mural feels like a breath of fresh mountain air. I wanted this bedroom to be peaceful and grounding—like you’re waking up in a national park. The watercolor trees and birds in flight are soft and serene, while still adding major visual impact.
Paired with textured bedding in earthy tones and golden accents, it’s the kind of room you actually want to sleep in.
Why I love it:
It brings the outdoors in without being literal.
It’s so soothing but still design-forward.
Works beautifully with natural light and simple furniture.

3. The Kids’ Room (AKA Bear cub Den) – Playful, Wild, and Full of Personality
Okay, I might’ve had way too much fun designing this space. The moment I saw this wallpaper, I knew it was the one. Foxes, mushrooms, butterflies, and snails—basically a forest party on your walls. It feels like a modern fairytale, perfect for sparking imagination.
Add in a cozy teepee, plush rug, and some colorful accents, and this room just radiates joy.
Why I love it:
It’s colorful but not chaotic (harder than it looks!).
It brings out the kid in everyone.
It makes the whole room feel magical.

4. The Bar Nook– Cheeky and Unexpected
This might be the most commented-on wall in the house. The black and white animal portraits in ornate frames? Hilarious, bold, and so fun. It feels like a little wink to anyone grabbing a drink or sneaking a midnight snack.
It was important to me that The Fernwood didn’t take itself too seriously—and this wallpaper is the perfect reminder of that.
Why I love it:
It’s cheeky and clever.
Black and white keeps it grounded amidst all the color.
It always makes people smile.

5. The Butterfly Hallway – Light, Airy, and a Little Bit Magical
This hallway could’ve easily been boring, but not on my watch! I fell in love with this butterfly wallpaper—it feels like a whimsical flight through a spring meadow. The green backdrop is soft, but still colorful enough to keep things interesting.
The shadows cast from the light fixture add extra dimension and make this space feel like a little moment of magic between rooms.
Why I love it:
It's sweet without being saccharine.
Adds softness and motion to a transitional space.
Perfect mix of color and calm.
